Section 4 | Rule 6: Regarding the Temptation to Flee from One’s Wife

By divorcing himself from his wife, the Custos severs his relationship with his wife primarily, but also separates himself from, if not lays siege to his fatherly vocation–his call from God–secondarily. As the holy apostle says, “Let every man abide in the same calling in which he was called” (1 Cor 7:20). And if you are married, “Make use of it rather” (see 1 Cor 7:21). And again, “Let every man, wherein he was called, therein abide with God” (1 Cor 7:23). Therefore, let the Custos make use of his vocation by discovering in the temptation to flee from his wife, the faithful example of Christ who loves His Bride, especially when she is indifferent or unfaithful to Him; for by doing so, he will surely abide with God by means of his fidelity to his wife.
